Visual Aids In Class
A UDL classroom uses visual representations. The applicable situations where visual aides are needed are innumerable. On this page, you can explore a few examples of how the software Boardmaker can help you add visual icons to the flow and education of your class.
Behaviour Support
Within my own intermediate classroom, I find that I am in need of visual behaviour supports the most! You could use Boardmaker to:
- create visual schedules counting down until break time - make a step by step list of things that need to be done in order to move onto a desired activity. - display appropriate expectations for certain activities (lining up, guided reading group rotations, morning routines etc.) - the desired expectations for behavior at a certain time (play time, recess time, work time, library time etc.) - daily reflections or DRC (daily report cards) intended for parent involvement or communication. |
CommunicationSome students with more severe needs might need assistive technology in order for them to communicate. Using a tool such as Boardmaker can provide pictures with books, placed on top of devices or on cards to help them communicate what they might not be able to verbalize.
